New Organization to Aid Candidates and Communities of Color

SEATTLE – Former Washington State Governor Gary Locke and former Cabinet Secretary Norm Mineta, will host a noon luncheon in honor of their newly formed Political Action Committee (PAC), America’s Opportunity Fund on November 30th at the Washington Athletic Club. This is the first Seattle event to inform people of this new initiative.

Locke and Mineta are committed to supporting progressive candidates at the federal level in pivotal races who are sympathetic and sensitive to the issues of people of color. The PAC is dedicated to providing leadership opportunities for candidates who reflect Democratic values: honest government, healthy families, strong community, hard work, love of country, respect and trust.

Both principals were recently in the Midwest to host an AOF luncheon. It was well attended by leaders from Chicago area communities of color. Locke and Mineta were clear about the purpose of their new organization, by stating “we cannot take for granted participation from Asian Pacific Islander Americans and other ethnic communities in the 2008 Election. We are committed to providing full access to the electoral process by encouraging active participation in, and by, communities of color. And, we recognize the need to encourage political candidates to campaign fully in these important communities.”

The Seattle luncheon will provide supporters an opportunity to learn more about how their involvement can make a difference on Election Day.
